Music Blur

I love Cake.   Not sure if you’ve figured it out yet.   What a great song on the fantastic album Fashion Nugget.  The album made famous by its off the wall lyrics, funky bass lines and bad ass brass sections.   Friend is a Four Letter Word is an often overlooked ballad on this album.  I have to admit, growing up, the meaning of this song eluded me completely.  OK, it kind of still does.  But here’s my take on it anyway.  It sound like when a girl calls you her friend, you take it as an insult.   Perhaps like some of the other “four letter words” we all know.  You wanted more than friendship.   All you hear is “iend” signifying the end of that relationship.  Well, what do you think?

The video for this song is pretty sweet.  It’s definitely confusing with the women in wetsuits and the old guys playing mini-golf.  I know what you’re thinking, and the bag thing isn’t a rip off of American Beauty.  This video came out before that movie did.  I have to admit that sadly, neither are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
