Susanne – Weezer
James and I are going to see Weezer tonight, so my post is dedicated to the awesome Weezer. I am a huge fan! I have all their albums and have already seen them in concert, so it was difficult to pick just one song. But I decided to go with “Susanne” because I haven’t really heard it anywhere other than at the end of the movie Mallrats. I was surprised by it’s addition to the movie, since I had never heard it before. It is one of my favorites, besides the obvious “Buddy Holly,” “Say it Ain’t So” and “Undone (The Sweater Song).” It is a sweet song, that makes me wish my name was Susanne rather than Sarah. I am looking forward to seeing Weezer again, they put on a great live show the first time around. I saw them right after Maladroit came out.
“Susanne” originally appeared as a B-side to the 1994 single, “Undone (The Sweater Song).” It was later included on the Deluxe Edition of Weezer (The Blue Album). The subject of the song, Susanne, was a PA at Geffen when Weezer was first getting its music off the ground. The line from the second verse, “Even Izzy, Slash and Axl Rose” was originally written with Kurt Cobain’s name but it was edited out (out of respect) after Cobain’s death in 1994. (source Wikipedia)
*edit* new video – 2/16/10
Ah yes, Mallrats + Weezer does indeed make for greatness.
I think it’s funny that the video you found on YouTube has subtitles in what looks to be Portuguese or something.
The video cracks me up too. At about 1:43, you can see that Bill E Ted – Dois Loucos no Tempo is coming up next. That’s freaking funny.
So the concert was sweet and oddly enough, they played Susanne. They just started into it a capella. Never heard of them doing that before. Great concert. They also played Time by Pink Floyd, at which point, I peed my pants.
