The Engine Driver – The Decemberists

The Decemberists - Picaresque - The Engine Driver

I’ve been thinking about this song for a while.   I can’t seem to get it out of my head.  I have heard quite a bit of The Decemberists and I’m impressed.  It’s hard to believe they aren’t more popular.  Maybe they are?  The Engine Driver is a simple but emotional and extremely catchy song.  It’s off their 2005 album Picaresqueties.

The video could be better, but some of the pictures in the montage are quite good.  Hopefully, now that I have posted it, I can stop singing it to myself *constantly*.  Don’t get me wrong, I like it, but lets get some variety up in this piece.

  1. I am also a fan of the Decemberists. I first heard them on The Colbert Report. MTVU.com was asking fans to re-animate one of their videos. Here’s a link to the site, http://www.mtvu.com/reanimatethedecemberists/. I’ll give the video my stamp of approval. The Decemberists have a sound that reminds me of someone else, if anyone can put their finger on it let me know.

  2. This is indeed a good song. I think the Decemberists are pretty popular, in the indie music seen that is.

I think their latest (or maybe next to latest) album The Crane Wife got a lot of critical acclaim. They did a great concert earlier in the year that NPR carried.

    It’s a really good listen.
