Servo – The Brian Jonestown Massacre
What? You don’t know about The Brian Jonestown Massacre? I guess that’s not too strange. I certainly didn’t either until a friend recommended the documentary DiG! to me. It follows the careers of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols over a seven year period. I am now recommending it to you, so do what you will with that. Great flick. You’ll gain respect for the BJM, lose that respect, and then get it back again.
I’m relatively new on the BJM scene and they have about a million albums, so the first song I’m going with is Servo. It’s actually featured on the documentary title menu. You know how you leave those on for a while and they repeat and repeat and repeat… So, it’s pretty much burned it’s way into my subconscious. Not such a bad thing though. It really has a 60’s sort of psychedelic rock thing going on but it came out in 97. Still pretty old, but worth the listen for sure.
I’m basically electing myself as The Brian Jonestown Massacre spokesperson here at MusicBlur. I’ll be featuring a them a bit more in the next few months because I’m really loving their sound right now. and because I think they really deserve it. Hope you think so too.
Wow, that does indeed sound like it came straight outta the 60s. I think what does it is that sweet ass flute in the background throughout the whole song.
I’ve certainly never heard of BJM, but…consider me intrigued. I’ll be interested to see what other songs you feature here in the future.
